ACA Open Enrollment

Affordable Health Care

Open enrollment for health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, typically occurs once a year. The dates for open enrollment may vary slightly from year to year. As of my last knowledge update in September 2021, here are the general open enrollment dates for ACA coverage:

Annual Open Enrollment Period:The primary open enrollment period for ACA health insurance plans typically runs from November 1 to December 15 each year. During this time, you can apply for new coverage, make changes to your existing plan, or renew your current plan for the following year.

Extended Enrollment Periods:In some cases, there may be extended or special enrollment periods (SEPs) that allow individuals to enroll or make changes outside of the regular open enrollment period. SEPs are typically triggered by specific qualifying life events, such as marriage, the birth or adoption of a child, or loss of other health coverage.

It's important to verify the exact open enrollment dates for the current year, as they can change, and state-based exchanges may have different schedules.

You can visit the official Health Insurance Marketplace website, Healthcare.gov, or your state's exchange website if your state operates its own marketplace to find the most up-to-date information on open enrollment and any special enrollment periods.
